Consider the furniture’s intended use and the style you want to achieve. Additionally, it is essential to know what protective finish works best for the product you choose. Most stains and some paints require you to apply a finish over them.
Oil-based stains penetrate deeper and highlight wood grain, while water-based products are easier to clean and less toxic. Consider using dyes for a cleaner, more striking colour. Chalk paint has become popular for its durable finish and ease of use. There are many other types of paint as well, including durable enamels and lacquers. Most paints require choosing the right primer for the substrate and paint base.
Samples and test boards are your best friends—always try your chosen product combination on a test board first. If there is a spot to text the products in a hidden area, this helps determine how the wood and products will react.
